This is the classic family recipe, handed down through generations, that had already served us well for years when we opened our doors. It has also been the building block for all of our subsequent adventures in biscotti, and you will no doubt recognize its warm, rich notes and perfect chewy texture in most of its younger siblings.
Biscotti means, literally, "burnt twice" in Italian. We like to joke that we only burn ours once. What we mean by that, of course, is that we do not perform the traditional second bake of the cooled slices. This was a preservative aid in The Old Country, and is what results in the popular notion of biscotti as a deadly weapon/automatic trip to the dental surgeon.
Our biscotti certainly do not break teeth, and we have by now turned literally hundreds of self-proclaimed biscotti haters into certifiable fans. But don't take our word for it; try it for yourself!
